We are located in the Snowdonia National Park and the area boasts some of the most beautiful dramatic and spectacular scenery in the country, (not forgetting the highest mountain in Wales and England). The village of Beddgelert, a short walk away, is perhaps better known for the Legend of Gelert. The famous dog Gelert was left by Prince Liewelyn to guard his child. On his return the child was nowhere to be seen and the dog was covered in blood. The Prince killed the dog before he realised that the heroic hound had in fact saved his child from a wolf. The remorseful Prince buried the dog on the banks of the Glaslyn and the grave can still be seen to this day. The village has also won many competitions including the Britain In Bloom, and the Entente Florale, the prestigious Europe in Bloom competition.

Many of the paths to the summit of Snowdon lead from this side of the mountain, in fact many guests walk up the Watkin Path from the hotel. For the less adventurous, there are many easier walks from the hotel, meandering alongside the lakes or rivers Colwyn and the rushing Glaslyn. The area offers a haven for a cross-section of local wildlife from the wild goats to the wide variety of birds (including many winter migrants). Our neighbours at the Sygun Copper mine are well worth a visit.

Further a field is the famous Italianate village of Portmeirion, numerous slate mines, the hydroelectric mountain and the many restored railways including the Ffestiniog, the Welsh Highland railways at Porthmadog and Caernarfon (including the new extension to Rhyd Ddu), and not forgetting the Snowdon Mountain railway. There are also many famous gardens such as Bodnant Gardens near Conwy as well as many National Trust properties. Numerous historic castles and sandy beaches are all within easy reach and we are only 7 miles from the coast.

So whatever your interests and whatever the season you will be spoilt for choice, and Sygun Fawr is the ultimate mountain retreat for your well-deserved short break.
